Classes

Ashtanga Yoga is practiced traditionally early in the morning and six days a week (except Sundays, sometimes Saturdays, and moon days). This type of practice is called Mysore-style self-practice as it is the way Pattabhi Jois (Guruji) used to teach it in Mysore, India. Practitioners work on their own and come to gradually memorize the ordered series of postures under the guidance of assistant teachers. Sometimes (one or twice a week if there is a steady practice) there are led classes where the teacher would spell out the count of each vinyasa of the series practiced to which the practitioner has to tune his breath. In Mysore, led classes are on Fridays and Saturdays but it can depend on the regularity and experience of practitioners.
